In the beginning of the novel Maybe, Hollywood, and Ted are all stuck in Central Florida. As if the heat isn't enough to drive anyone there in summer crazy, Maybe always has Chessy around for killing her self-esteem and driving her insane.

The main characters( Maybe, Ted, and Hollywood) start a road trip a little ways into the novel. They all knew where they were going but arriving there is just ten times better then when theydecided to go for all of them, especially Maybe.
